Maurice Ryman HUISH
Joined 241 Squadron in Piagiolino Italy. from 5 RFU in August 1944.
From 241 Squadron ORB 14th September 1944. Spitfire JF396.
Briefed as weaver to Spitfire of No.40(SA) Squadron on Tac/R. battle area. On way back the weaver developed engine trouble and R/T'd to 40(SA) Spit. that he would have to force land, but was obliged to bale out from 3,500' at S.0556.
Pilot landed safely at S.0580, the aircraft crashing at S.026777. Pilot returned to his unit same day.
From 241 Squadron ORB 1st January 1945. Spitfire PV116. Two aircraft crashed immediately after take-off.
Just after take-off this morning SGT.GILL's engine cut and in trying to get back to the aerodrome the aircraft was seen to "flick" and spin into the ground. It is regretted by all that 1808284 SGT. GILL R. was killed in this accident.
1603718 SGT. HUISH, M.R. was somewhat more lucky as he made a fairly successful forced-landing in a ploughed field and got away "scot free" except for a small cut on his forehead.
After these two tragedies all our aircraft were grounded pending inquiry.
