From the National Archives AIR/27/1818 417 Squadron ORB
11th Dec 1944 JF952
Another accident which may prove less tragic that the Shannon/Rideout collision places Pilot Officer H.C. Murray, (CAN.J90425) on the casualty list today. P/O Murray was in position 3 of section of six aircraft bombing a target for Rover Paddy. No one saw him get hit or bale out, but the leader, F/L R.E. Kent (CAN.J15479), heard him over the R.T. saying he was hit.
Upon returning to base, F/L Kent received a report from the Army that a Spitfire pilot been observed to bale out, over enemy lines and it is believed that this was P/O Murray. He has been classified Missing believed Prisoner of War.
Note: He was a POW in Stalag Luft I, Barth Germany. Please see link
