Newell Orton took command of 54 Squadron RAF on 10th July 1941

17 Sep 1941

ORTON, NEWELL DFC and Bar

Sqn Ldr

He was killed whilst flying in Spitfire VB, W3772 of No 54 Sqn, which was shot down by a Bf 109 during Circus 95. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
