Philip Godfrey Blades was one of the original pilots with 416 Squadron as of December 1941. He was posted to 421 Squadron in late October 1942.
On June 25, 1945, he was mentioned in despatches as one of 42 RCAF members from BC: "J6371 Flight Lieutenant Philip Godfrey Blades from Victoria, British Columbia, was Mentioned in Despatches. His award was published in the 14th of June 1945 edition of the London Gazette."
