Extract from the 125 Wing ORB
4/7/44 1900 Weather restricted flying to-day, and only 61 sorties were flown. 3 FW 190's were bounced S. of Caen at 1900 hours and damaged the three of them. Blue section of 602 sqdn., however were themselves bounced and F/S Challice and P/O Kelly did not return from this operation. G/C J. Rankin D.S.O. and Bar, D.F.C. and Bar, Sector Commander visited the Wing in the afternoon.
