LAMB, Deryck Percy, F/L No.19 Squadron - Distinguished Flying Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 August 1944. Airman 937498,commissioned 17 November 1941. Pilot of Mustang FB129 which crashed 9 September 1944 (No.65 Squadron). Public Record Office Air 2/9633 has citation drafted when he had flown 215 sorties (237 operational hours) and held the appointment of Flight Commander.
Since joining his squadron this officer has flown on a great number of sorties including convoy escort work to Russia and North Africa. He is a fine leader in the air and at all times shows a fine fighting spirit.
He was born in 1921 in Tynemouth, and killed during the Bush War in Rhodesia on September 11th 1979.
His D.F.C. award was reported in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle of August 11th 1944:

He's the father of aerobatic pilot Nigel Lamb:
