Maurice Hicks was a photo reconnaisance spitfire pilot flying rhubarbs across the channel prior to, post and during D-day.

Later was an examiner at Central Flying School with the RAF.

He was commissioned as Flight Lieutenant , short service ( eight years on the active list and four years on reserve).

Maurice lived near Cumbernauld, Scotland later in life and was a ground school instructor and CAA examiner at the newly established airport opened at Cumbernauld in 1989.

He appeared briefly on TV with Karen Keating on the Garden Show during Glasgow Year of Culture 1989.
