Flying Officer Griffiths left RAF Benson at 10.28pm on the night of 5th December 1944 in an unarmed Spitfire PR XI to photograph potential targets in Germany.
Some time later he called up on R/T to say that his engine had failed. Nothing more was heard from him.
It was later reported that his aircraft had crashed in the vicinity of Roernond, Netherlands.
