Two of our pilots flew off into the blue today and never returned. A section of four aircraft was scheduled to bomb a gun position west of IMOLA, but the leader failed to get off due to mechanical difficulty. A second aircraft piloted by Flying Officer, S.A. Marshall, (CAN.J.28750), had radio trouble and returned to base leaving F/L Jimmy Waslyk (CAN.J.20636), and F/O Raymond Edge (CAN.J.26144), to complete the mission. These pilots were never heard of again.
This pilot flew Spitfire fighter aircraft for the RCAF / RAF (60% of all RCAF personnel served in RAF units at some point) in WWII, this record has come from the database of Mr. Halliday, a Canadian military historian.
This Pilot's entry: cause of death was kia, burial location ITY, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (www.cwgc.org) may have more information on family.
