Dive Bombing Shipping North of Wilhelmshaven. Hit by flak as attack began near Wangerooge which resulted the loss of a wing. The aircraft exploded and fell into the sea.

It is possible that Flt Lt Szczerbinski was the last Polish fighter and Spitfire pilot to be killed in WWII.
