Comments / Questions:by: Red Dragon Fg Off G M Horter 412 (RCAF) Squadron 2017-04-21 00:01:41 Fired his guns at a factory near Lunberg only to have the rounds ricochet up and hit his aircraft. Forced to make a wheels up landing with his belly tank still attached. He hit the ground at high speed. The tank exploded and ripped his Spitfire apart. It look as if Fg Off Horter had been killed in the crash. Two days later Sqn Ldr Boyd (CO) pinpointed the location of the wreckage and dispatched the wing's medical officer to see if the pilot had indeed survived. Incredibly Fg Off Horter was found alive still strapped into his cockpit. Suffering from exposure and a broken arm, the badly injured pilot was extracted from the wreckage and quickly sent to hospital. reply |
