Comments / Questions:by: Spitfire609 2016-04-17 20:00:20 The pilot that was killed in this incident was P/O Geoffrey Norman Gaunt not P/O Daunt. Reference: http://www.bbm.org.uk/GauntGN.htm reply by: Spitfire609 2016-04-18 16:24:48 PR-Q & PR-A R6690 used to bare the squadron code PR-Q. The reason it was changed to PR-A is unknown. On the momentous battle that took place on the 13th August 1940 Adlertag (Eagle Day) John Dundas flew R6690 painted as PR-Q. During the fierce dogfight that took place over Lyme Bay Dudas destroyed a Ju 87A from II/StG2 and damaged another. During the dogfight a Stuka gunner damaged Spitfire R6690 PR-Q's gyro-system. Dudas was forced to preform a deadstick landing upon returning to RAF Warmwell. It is most likely R6690 changed from PR-Q to PR-A following a brief spell to repair the battle damage inflicted in the aerial battle of the13th August. reply |
