Albert 'Bertje' Herreman started pilot training in Belgium on 1 March 1940. He was evacuated with the Flying Training School to France on 13 May 1940, and from there to Oujda, Morocco. There he embarked at Casablanca on 2 July 1940 for the UK, where he arrived on 5 August 1940. He enlisted in the RAFVR in November the same year, and started training (1 March 1941 - 6 May1941) at the Franco-Belgium EFTS at Odiham. He attended the 5 FTS (20 May1941 - 10 August 1941) at Tern Hill/Salop, followed by the 61 OTU (20 August 1941 -
20 September 1941) at Heston.

Qualified as a pilot, and promoted to Sergeant, Albert Herreman was posted to 123 (East India) Squadron (28 September - 30 November 1941) and then transferred to 124 (Baroda) Squadron (1 December 1941 - 31 August
1942) .

Promoted to F/Sgt in August, he joined 350 (Belgian) Squadron on 1 September 1942, with whom he was commissioned on 20 March 1943, and was promotedF/O on 20 September 1943.

Tragically he was killed in a flying accident on 8 June1944, when in bad weather, his Spitfire Mk VB, BM363 MN-G, collided with a USAAFB-26 over Hailsham, East Sussex.
