Guy " Gieter " Jaegher escaped to Great Britain on 21May 1940, where he enrolled in the Belgian Army (at Tenby).
On August 7th,1941, he joined the RAFVR. His training then took him to the RAF Depot at Penarth, from where he was transferred on 19 September 1941 to RAF Depot Viceroy Court, then: 5 ITW Torquay (05 October 1941), 6 EFTS Sywell (17 November 1941), 22 SFTS Cambridge (01 May 1942), RAF College Cranwell (20 May 1942) and, finally, 58 OTU Grangemouth (29 September 1942).
He was posted to 350 Sqn in December 1942. The squadron diary contains the following entries:
"23/12/1942 Five new pilots arrives from OTU: L. Dancot, G. De Jaegher, J. Groensteen, J. Lavigne and J. Wustefeld"
On 30 April 1944 he was involved in a flying accident when taking off for an escort mission: "D. Scuvie collided with G. De Jaegher and and, as a result, crashed into the sea and was killed. De Jaegher successfully ditched in the sea off Isle of Wight and was rescued by Air Sea Rescue. Injured in one of his eyes, he was retired from operations for a long period".
After recovery, De Jaegher joined the sister squadron, 349 (Belgian) Squadron (November 1944 - May 1945).
Guy De Jaegher died in Johannesburg (South Africa) on 10 October 1967.
