Joseph 'Willy' Laloux joined the BelgianForces of Great Britain on 23 December 1940 and transferred to Belgian Section of the RAF on 7 August 1941. He joined 609 Sqn on 25 September 1941 (for non flying duty) and was sent for training to: RAF Depot Regent's Park (17 November 1941), 5 ITW (8 December 1941), 10 EFTS - as an LAC - (4 April 1942), RAF Depot Wolverhampton (8 July1942), 22 SFTS (22 July 1942). Laloux was promoted Sergeant on 6 January 1942 and send to 58OTU on 12 January 1943.
He arrived at 350 (BE) Sqn on 21 March 1943, promoted to Flight Sergeant on 6 January 1944 and Commissioned as a Warrant Officer on 6 January 1945. Entries in the Squadron diary record the following:
14/03/1944 - Practice Army co-operation, dusk landings, bombing, formation flying and night flying. F/O Lavigne lost its port wing on take off (MN-Z , MK192). J. Morel has to bail out after his engine cut. Flying just above the sea, he successfully ditched near fishing boats and was rescued. F/O Siroux and F/Sgt Laloux cut each others wings on landing.
09/02/1945 - W. Laloux, hit by flak, crash landed near Osnabruck and is made POW.
As noted above, during an armed Armed Recce in February 1945, his aircraft received catastrophic damage from flak and he had to bail out; thus he became a POW until War's end.
After the War he joined the Belgian Air Force.
