The video link on the right tells a very interesting story of how flight seargent Callaghan baled out, was chased by Germans in dense brush on the Croatian coast, and after approaching an elderly woman later in the evening, was assisted by the partisans and ultimately escaped.

The video goes into great detail, including the goal of the original operation/sorties, him being sheltered in the hills/low mountains and finally how a young woman was sent to him so that they leave his hiding spot in the hills and they could walk (as a local couple) through German check-points to ultimately escape by boat to one Island (where the woman went after that we don't know ) and then ultimately taken by partisans to the island of Vis, which, was a key allied airfield for launching attacks to Crotia. Then, returned to Foggia where he joined his unit.

Escape stories like this show the organization and determination of local partisans to help return downed pilots.
